Your plants will die if they are NOT watered and can also perish if they are OVER-WATERED so it is very important to follow the below care. For your convenience, you may also download our plant care guide as a printable PDF.
- When hand watering- water each plant or tree around its base. Make sure to thoroughly soak the base without washing away the soil.
- Spring- temps between 50-75°, deep water 1-2 times per week
- Summer- temps between 75-90°, deep water 2-3 times per week
- Summer (VERY HOT) – temps 90° +, deep water every other day
- Fall- temps between 50-75°, deep water 1-2 times per week
* For any newly transplanted shrubs, deep water daily for 2 weeks, then resume watering with applicable schedule listed above.
- For proper watering: Thoroughly water until the entire root ball is saturated. Water only when the top of the soil (not mulch) dries out. If the top of the soil is still moist from your previous watering, there is no need to water that day. Too much water will invite disease and may rot the root system, but you must make sure each and every plant or tree is getting a sufficient amount of water.
- Plants will tend to wilt or brown after installation due to stress from uprooting, delivery and planting. Do not be too concerned if you are following the above care.
- Be careful to keep pets and other chemicals away from your plants. Do NOT fertilize your new plants until at least 1 full year after initial planting – you can kill them.
- Some plants may look dead or damaged after the winter months due to their growth habit. It is important to wait until May/June to properly evaluate their health.
- If you have any varieties of holly, rhododendron or laurels, we highly recommended applying Wilt-Pruf® in late fall/early winter to protect the leaves against winter burn.
- Deer do most of their damage during the winter time, but may eat plants/trees during any given season. If you notice deer damage, please contact us immediately so that we can advise of the proper remedies.
- Should you have an existing sprinkler system, it is very important to contact your sprinkler company to make sure that your settings are appropriate for both NEW plants and the current temperatures. THE SURVIVAL OF YOUR PLANTS ARE DEPENDENT ON EITHER YOU OR THE SPRINKLER COMPANY MAKING THE SEASONAL ADJUSTMENTS TO YOUR SYSTEM TO ACCOMMODATE CHANGES IN TEMPERATURES.
